Welcome to Global History & Geography I & II with Ms. V.  This year will be interesting.  I am new to the High but not new to the district, this is my 8th year teaching in ACSD.  You are participating in what is called a SCALE Classroom.  That stands for Student Centered Active Learning Environment.

You will be learning history in this class... a LOT of history, but we will be using that history as a means to learn technology skills, work on our reading and writing, and in general become better thinkers!  To do this you CANNOT be passive learners, sitting in chairs and acting as human xerox machines for everything you hear.  You must be active - participating in the learning process by retrieving and manipulating information.

This means that this class will not be a traditional class.  I will not stand in the front, side, or back of the room and lecture for the period.  The role of the teacher in this class is not be the keeper of knowledge.  My role is to be more of a partner or coach; to help you get the information and learn to use it.  The true onus of learning falls on you!  Together we will work with the curriculum, learn about Global History, prepare for Regents Exam, and ultimately become more educated, active learners.  In this classroom we are all teachers, and we are all students.

I believe that intelligence is modifiable; that you are not born "smart" but become "smart" - and that, above all else, is what we will work on this year!
